So I've been on campus for a bit today, put in an hour or so over in Pepper and have just settled into my cubicle over in Psych for the rest of the day...only to find no music loaded onto my iPod!?!

This would be so upsetting if:
1. I didn't spend a few hours last night making new playlists and uploading them to my Cthulhu snuggled iPod and 2. I didn't need it to tune out the world around me.

I watched it update.  WTF!?!  Is my trusted and loved iPod mini dead?  I recently reformatted it and it updated last week just fine.

FUCK.

I've been kicking around the idea of an area shirt for the cognitive grad students here, but with a personalized front that kind of gets at the lenses/goggles we need to use when looking at various articles, empirical evidence we see, and who to try to channel when we are writing prospectuses/articles/theses/dissertations.  I was thinking something along these lines....

You would personalize the front in a What Would Advisor's Initials Do? format.  For us I was thinking that we could try wear them as an area on Fridays when we have our bag lunches...or anytime really.  It could use a little tweaking.  I'd really like to get my hands on the department logo instead of a university one.  The backs can be preprinted, but we'd have to personalize the fronts ourselves.

Would you find this funny?  Offensive?  Would you order one (if school colors and department logos were appropriate)?

Currently I'm spending my work-from-home day (and conincedentally the Jewish New Year - What a bad Jew I am!) reading journal articles and drinking margaritas at a local Mexican restaurant (and my favorite one in Tally) while the mechanics two doors down give my car new (and expensive! - Who needs a massage?) breaks. *sigh*

***Edited because my fucked up phone and Txt LJ failed to bring you the whole truth in one coherent post!

Here is how it works: copy this list. Leave in the bands you've seen perform live. Delete the ones you haven't and add new ones that you have seen until you reach 25. An asterisk means the previous person had it on their list. Two asterisks means the last two people who did this before you had that band on their list. Three asterisks etc...

Heartbreaker - Pat Benetar

My early morning clearheadedness, note taking, and ideas that were to be put to good use this afternoon were hardly utilized after all.  First, there was a storm that knocked out the power for a good hour.  Then, an actual neighbor has decided to move into the other townhouse that makes up the duplex in which I dwell.  That alone wouldn't have been a big deal, but the lawyer and owner cannot find the key and have been sitting in the driveway for hours, their only cell phone has died and I've had to lend mine to help get the locksmith(s) to come and drill the lock.

The unit has been part of an Estate - that much I knew - well, my new neighbor is a young 22 year old who is inheriting the townhouse because he has lost both parents.  Ah, well, been there, done that.

So, back to my unproductive afternoon:

The dogs are none too happy!  They have been barking like crazy because - people outside, and Mommy keeps going out to lend the phone, and, and, and......

I have a massage to give at 5:30 only I don't want to leave until the lock is drilled and the dogs settle a bit, but I might not have a choice.  I have given Jake and Elwood some Benadryl to help with the calming down and the barking at things outside while I'm gone.

Hello All!  As ususal I have been no-so-good about the updating as of late and (also as usual) I promise to try to make more with the post-y post-y.  I have missed you so and have been trying to keep up with my lj reading, but have fallen behind.  Please forgive me and if there is something I should have read do direct me to it right away.

July is shaping up to be Potteriffic!  The weekend before last was centered around the OotP movie release. [info]robvangraham and I ventured to Orlando so that we could view the latest HP movie on IMAX and in 3-D to boot!  I thought the movie was fantastic even though I think it could have done with 15 more minutes in order to explain a few imortant (I think) details and relationships.  This is the first movie that if you haven't read the book you might be in trouble as not all questions are answered - like who sent the dementors at the beginning of the movie.  The entire flick is not in 3-D (though that may have been very cool) only the flight to the battle and the battle in the Dept of Mysteries - and it was AWESOME!  I highly recommend it!

This past weekend I made the short trek to Gainesville so that   [info]robvangraham and I could pick up our copies of HP and The Deathly Hallows that he had pre-ordered for us.  After a brief experiment in what happens when hundreds of people (not all of whom seem keen on personal hygiene) are stuffed into one bookstore we took our books and headed back to his place with plans to dive right into book 7.  Graham had stocked his place with all the necessities and with the exception of going out for our Starbucks on Saturday morning we stayed in until we were through reading.  He finished about 2.5 hours earlier than I on Saturday evening.  Overall I enjoyed the conclusion of the series very much.  It started with a bang and ended almost perfectly with a few "get on with it already" moments in the middle.  There were a few things I had guessed right and a few I missed completely.

This morning I am back home in Tally with loads of actual work to get done, but more on that later.....

Well folks, this is a first for me......as not only have I not had time to post, but I have not really had time to read LJ either.  Usually I am lurking in the shadows reading and staying up to date on everyone.  I'm working on catching up, but if there is anything uber important that I should know about please do tell!

So, the short, short, short versions of the state of things.....

[info]robvangrahamand I just returned from Mexico late Sunday where we attended his brother's wedding.  The travel was long, but for the most part it was smooth sailing.  The ceremony/party on Saturday was excellent complete with fun, family, friends, tequilla, food, dancing, family singing, and a mariachi band. Ole!

Valentine's was lonely.  It was the first Valentine's in 6 (beginning 2002) that I did not get to spend with Graham, but driving to G-ville or Tally the day before we would be embarking on our journey to Mexico seemed silly.  Still.....

I am not doing what I really want to do for my Master's Thesis, because I'm being respectful of my Advisor that is leaving and has invested 2 years in me.

I will however still do the applied memory and emotion project I want to do after Advisor leaves.  I think it has the promise to be very sexy.

I feel really isolated these days.

I want more than ever to be in the same place as Graham so that we can truly start our lives together.  It's that whole "When Harry Met Sally" thing....when you know who you want to spend the rest of your life with, you don't want to wait anymore, you want that life to start right NOW!

I miss having my friends close.  I'm stuck in my own head waaaaayyyy to much.  I need to get out go shopping, have coffee and dinner and be generally silly, but I haven't had any time to make it back to Orlando due to school being so insane right now.

Tribal Wallah is hosting it's first ever "Tally Raks!" Hafla this Saturday!  I myself am not danicng with the troup since I am a belly dancing novice, but it should be a good time.  You don't have to dance to attend, but after the troup performances there will be dancing for anyone who wants to shake their shimmie!

I have only been a part of Tribal Wallah since August, but I have to say this is one of the most amazing groups of women I have ever had the priviledge of being a part of.  They are a warm, intelligent, eclectic bunch who made me feel welcome and beautiful from my first class at WeMoon Spirit.  I thought belly dancing would just be a fun way to excercise once a week, but it is so much more.  Plus I found muscles I never knew existed!

Well, back to the lab and my students!

Five years ago, on a date in October sometime around now I turned on my ancient desktop computer(a 386 w/8MB of RAM), loaded AOL and heard three little words that changed my life forever - "You've Got Mail". My inbox was cluttered with spam and the most curious e-mail entitled "Diet coke Ryan? Key Club Ryan?" (please forgive me if the order or the title isn't quite right) from classmates.com. I immediately clicked on it and was shocked to see an inquiry from a very unique individual from my past. We'd met one fateful day at a district caucus for Key Club that did not elect me Lt. Governor (you see - everyone hated me - even some of my own MHS members).  I remembered going to a movie and a junior prom with him.  I also remembered going to FPCHS to see him perform in the musical Godspell and another play that was much like Our Town.  I was flattered that he still thought of me at all and was curious enough to drop me a note.

Well, I replied to that e-mail and the rest is my very own love story.

Before I knew it, he had replied back and included his phone number.  I dialed with butterflies all a flutter in my stomach and when he came on the line his voiced washed over me like a warm ocean wave.  We talked for hours.  Over the few weeks and two months that followed we fell more and more into each other.  Christmas Eve of 2001 we saw each other for the first time in 9 years (I'll save that story for later) and he is still the best Christmas present I've ever gotten.  The night could not have been more perfect.  Graham could not have lived up to my expectations more - he even exceeded them.

I still, to this day get butterflies in my stomach every time he takes me in his arms (especially when he is aggressive about it) and kisses me.

I know how you all love memes, but this is just to help me get back in the old LJ saddle.  There is lots to update, I just never seem to make myself sit down to get it all out!  So, for the sake of getting words on my paper, here goes....

Tagged by [info]robvangraham

1. One book that changed your life:
As an adolescent I'd have to say Fahrenheit 451 - Ray Bradbury
As a young adult in my early 20's anything by Kurt Vonnegut - especially Cat's Cradle, or anything by Charles Bukowski - I never knew writing could be so gritty and real.

2. One book that you’ve read more than once:
There are definitely plenty of books that I could list here...but since I have to pick and I kinda cheated on the first question...  The Tao of Pooh - Benjamin Hoff

3. One book you’d want on a desert island:
If they ever smush all of Terry Pratchett's Discworld Series into one huge book I'd choose that for sure!  There would just be so much to read before you'd have to go back to the beginning again.  But, since they haven't then I'd say The Lord of the Rings - JRR Tolkien.

4. One book that made you laugh:
Although there are many authors that can make me chuckle more often then not, one book in particular comes to mind....Bridget Jones's Diary - Helen Fielding.  Coincidentally, the sequel also made me fall off the couch with laughter and almost pee my pants.  Good stuff!

5. One book that made you cry:
This is hands-down, the easiest one to answer ( it could have also been an answer to #2)...Where the Red Fern Grows - Wilson Rawls

6. One book that you wish had been written:
?????  I will have to get back to you on this one....

7. One book you wish had never been written:
OH! How I hated reading Billy Budd - Herman Melville in eleventh grade!  Dry, boring, and safe to say I never successfully waded through it. YUK!

8. One book you’re currently reading:

Because I am that much of a geek for what I do..... The Seven Sins of Memory - Daniel L. Schacter

9. One book you’ve been meaning to read:

Stardust - Neil Gaiman

[info]The doggies are fed and have spent sufficient time in the yard this morning.  Instructions, pills, and treats in place for [info]teleject to take care of them tonight and tomorrow morning before some plane whisks him off  to some destination unknown.

I'm off to Orlando in search of good hair and good food!  Early tomorrow morning I head to Daytona to see the grandparents - my grandpa just got out of the hospital (he had a clot in his leg) and I can't wait to see him!  We shall have breakfast at Bertie's and visit a bit as I have not seen them for more than 10 minutes since just before Thanksgiving.  It really is weird living so far away from them.

Tomorrow afternoon  I shall head for Gainesville and hope to see [info]robvangraham if only for a few minutes.  Then back to Tallahassee to finish getting ready for the classes and students that will descend upon me  Tuesday.

*PHEW*  I'm tired just thinking about it.  Well, off to the Bugmobile!
